Dr. Prabhakar B. Kore, the first Chancellor of the K.L.E. Academy of Higher Education & Research, Belagavi, has held the position of chairman at KLES for a period of 30 years. His multifaceted character is evident through his involvement in various fields such as politics, education, agriculture, cooperative endeavors, and community development.

Visionary Leadership Redefining Education: Dr. Prabhakar Kore's Transformative Journey with KLE Society and KLE University

Since 1985, Dr. Prabhakar Kore, MP, has held the esteemed position of Chairman of the KLE Society, demonstrating remarkable foresight and transformative leadership. His visionary approach has been pivotal in steering the institution towards unprecedented heights, opting to embrace the new century with the establishment of an autonomous university. This bold move has unlocked a plethora of opportunities in the realm of education, positioning the KLE Society as a trailblazer in academic excellence.

Under the auspices of the University Grants Commission, the KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research was officially founded on April 13, 2006. This significant milestone was realized through Notification No.F.9-19/2000-U-R(A) issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Dr. Kore’s unwavering commitment to advancing educational standards has been instrumental in shaping the institution’s illustrious legacy.

Dr. Kore’s tenure has been marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a steadfast dedication to the core values of education. His leadership has not only expanded the academic horizons of the KLE Society but also significantly contributed to its reputation as a premier educational institution. Through his visionary stewardship, Dr. Prabhakar Kore has ensured that the KLE Society and its associated institutions continue to thrive as beacons of knowledge, innovation, and societal transformation.

Political Accomplishments​

Three-time Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha (1990-1996, 2008-2014, and 2014-2020), and a member of various Parliamentary Committees, including those for the Ministry of Defence, Human Resource Development, Health and Family Welfare, Consultative Committee, Education, Railways, Hindi Prasara, Planning, Agriculture, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Transport, Tourism & Culture, Food Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution, Urban Development, and Energy, Subordinate Legislation. Served as an official member of the delegation for the State visit of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Honourable President of India, to Belgium and Turkey in 2013, and as a member of the delegation accompanying Honourable Vice-President Dr. Hamid Ansari on a visit to Hungary and Algeria in 2016. Participated in the Indian Parliamentarian Study visit to Indonesia. Served as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council from 2001 to 2007. Currently, he is the Vice-President of the All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Bengaluru, and a member of the Karnataka Veerashaiva-Lingayat Development Corporation (KVLDC).

Accomplishments as an Organizer

Responsible for the successful conduct of the Karnataka Assembly Session, twice at Belagavi, first in September 2006 and the second time in January 2009. Worked as Chairman of the Reception Committee for the mega event “Vishwa Kannada Sammelana” held at Belagavi in March 2011, inaugurated by noted film star Aishwarya Rai, industrial tycoon Shri Narayan Murthy, Infosys, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri B.S. Yadiyurappa, and attended by a host of dignitaries from all walks of life and Kannadigas from across the world. Served as President, Reception Committee, at the All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha’s 21st Convention held at Belagavi, inaugurated by His Excellency Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma, then Vice President of India. Worked as Chairman, Reception Committee, at the 70th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held at Belagavi, Karnataka, in March 2003, and as Chairman of the 5th Akhil Bharat Sharana Sahitya Parishat, Belagavi, 2003. Instrumental in the construction of the grand monument “Karnataka Suvarna Soudha” in Belagavi, where the Winter Session of the Karnataka Legislature is conducted every year.

AS AN EDUCATIONIST

Chairman of KLE Society, Belagavi since 1984, he has led the organization from 38 institutions to a globally reputed entity with 300 institutions, 138,000 students, and 18,000 faculty members, making significant contributions in education, healthcare, research, and agriculture. He established the multi-disciplinary KAHER–KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (Deemed-to-be-University) in Belagavi in 2006 and the KLE Technological University (KLE TECH) in Hubballi in 2015. He has promoted research in medicine, pharmacy, biotechnology, and more by setting up a state-of-the-art research center at the KAHER campus. Additionally, he established two community radio stations in Hubballi and Belagavi and state-of-the-art English medium schools in rural areas such as Ankali, Chikodi, Athani, Gokak, Nipani, Saundatti, and Malur. His efforts also include forming a partnership between KAHER and the Khelo India initiative (Govt. of India) to promote judo, badminton, and swimming, supporting athletes’ training for the Olympics.

Leader of Co-operative Movement​

Spearheading the cooperative movement in the border region of Karnataka and Maharashtra, he has led the Doodha Ganga Krishna Co-operative Sugar Factory in Chikodi, Karnataka, which has become a model sugar factory significantly contributing to the well-being of farmers in the region. He served as Director of All India Co-operative Sugar Factories Ltd., New Delhi, and established several cooperative banks, earning the unwavering trust of both borrowers and depositors. Additionally, he played a key role in establishing the Belagavi District Rani Channamma Mahila Co-operative Bank Ltd., Belagavi, Karnataka.

Awards & Honour​

He was conferred an Honorary Doctorate by Karnatak University, Dharwad, on February 13, 2008, for outstanding contributions in education. He received the Karnataka Government’s ‘Suvarna Karnataka Rajyotsav Award 2006’ for his significant impact on education and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Education, Service, and Commitment to Society, awarded for the first time by Veershaiva Samaj of North America in New York. In 2004, he was recognized as the ‘Outstanding Educationist’ of the year by Giants International Group, an award presented by Amitabh Bachchan. He was honored on December 21, 2007, by the Kannada Sangh Bahrain as “Kannada Vaibhav 2007” and as an “Eminent Educationist” by Karnatak Sangh, Qatar, in December 2009. He was felicitated in Long Island, New York, by the Nargis Dutt Foundation of North America for his work in education and health care. On January 29, 2013, he received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from TiE—The Indus Entrepreneurs, conferred by Shri Ratan Tata in the presence of Mr. Narayan Murthy, Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, and Dr. Gururaj Deshpande. Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, awarded him an Honorary Doctorate on February 16, 2013, for his contributions to education and health care. He was honored by Ms. Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health, USA, for his outstanding contributions to medical education and research. At the Sugar Convention on October 13, 2014, he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by Bharatiya Sugar. On November 17, 2015, Universiti Sains Malaysia conferred upon him an Honorary Doctorate in Education for his exceptional services. The prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” was presented to him on July 28, 2016, by the Sugar Technologists Association of India (STAI) for his invaluable contributions to the Indian sugar industry. On January 15, 2017, he was awarded ‘Sirigannada Gourav-2016’ by Belagavi Zilla Sahitya Pratishthan for his outstanding services in education and social service. He received the “Sri Mrityunjaya Mahant Prashasti 2017” for his work in education, social, and medical fields on January 28, 2017, and the “Vishwachetan” Award at Yadur on January 27, 2017, by Shri Shri Shri 1008 Dr. Channasiddhrama Panditaradya Shivacharya Mahaswamiji Shrishail, Yadur.
