The institution has exclusive library facility for students and teaching with total built-up area of 1842.54 Sq. ft. Our College Library is called as “Pharma info-zone” act as heart of our institution. It is located at the third floor of the College building in a clean and quiet atmosphere in the campus of KLE College of Pharmacy, Bengaluru. Library is managed by Library Advisory committee consisting of Principal, HODs of all departments, one librarian with MLISc Qualification and two attenders. Library is furnished with wooden reading tables having good lighting system, comfortable chairs and fans. Absolute silence is ensured by library staff, displaying adequate sign boards such as “no mobile usage” and “maintain silence. It has reading room for staff and PG students with nearly 40 seating capacity. Computers with Internet facility are available along with Printer.
The “LIBRARY MANAGEMENT” gives us the complete information about the library. Library maintains hard copies of different categories of Books, Journals, Newspapers and Magazines. Books are classified according to subject wise and maintain the records of Book name, Author name, Publisher’s name, Date/ Year of publication and Cost of the book. All the members have to access to the entire library resources without any categorization, the resources include Books, Journals, Weekly, monthly magazines and News Papers. There are 14 computers,1 photocopy machine & 3 vigilant cameras in the library.
Each book is bar-coded with unique accession number. Students will be issued Library cards for the purpose of utilizing books. The library is partially automated with pioneering software platform “contineo” in the year 2018 (contineo is a web based document management system- DMS). It supports its users by managing documents in most popular formats.
Transactions of the library are made through software and also manually, which include:
- Updating books and information in accession register.
- Ordering and maintaining books
- Adding members: staff and students
- Circulation of books to the staff and students
- Including journal and periodical details
- Cataloging service
Searching books can be done with OPAC (online public access catalogue) with available details like; books name, author name, title of the book or accession number. It maintains student and staff details and helps in keeping track of issued and returning information of books. The contineo also supports Barcode Technology.
Students and staffs are instructed for discipline management of library facilities. Students are provided with library card for borrowing books. Students are instructed to check the books while borrowing and they will be responsible for any type of damage at the time of return. Books taken should be returned on or before the due date stamped, if returned late overdue fine will be charged for the delayed period. If the books are lost, then the lender shall replace the books of the same edition or latest edition or pay cost of the book after getting permission from the librarian. Loss of borrower card should be reported to the librarian. Duplicate card may be issued against formal application and fine. No-dues certificate will be issued to students from the library after returning all the books.
Digital library of the institute has 12 computers and 14 more computers in library with individual configurations (OS Windows-7) along with ACT internet facilities. It is being extensively used by the faculty, under-graduate and post-graduate students. Internet facility with broad band connectivity with band width speed of 2mbps is provided through leased line in the digital library and simultaneously 25 students can access the digital library. IT infrastructure and associated facilities such as antivirus software is periodically up-graded. The institution provides the facilities such as e-books, and e-journal access for students and faculty. At the end of every academic year library stock checking is done in the presence of committee members and problems are resolved.
The aim of library is to fulfill the need of relating materials. The books are the foundation stone of library service. The Library has a rich stock of books to meet the intellectual and academic needs of both students and staff. The library subscribes to an adequate number of journals and magazines which brings to them the most up-to-date developments in technology along with Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacongnosy, Pharmaceutical chemistry. The institute has well equipped and furnished library with 11769 books. In addition to this Library has developed an excellent collection of books, journals and e-journals in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmacongnosy, Pharmaceutical chemistry and Pharmacy practice. It maintains separate collections of Reference Books, Journals, Compact Discs. Library is fully computerized by using library management software and all books are bar-coded. New books purchased to the library are displayed on new arrival tables for the information to the users. Question bank of previous examinations pertaining to all semesters is available in the library. Reference section is available and the books are used by the users. Library subscribes 10 National and 70 E- journals of Pharmacy. Library also maintains PG (M. Pharm) desertion books, general books; GATE, GREF, and TOFEL other materials like CDs, DVDs, and e-journals. The books purchased for the library are classified and catalogued according to subjects. Separate Department library is maintained in every Department laboratory for easy access at the time of lab schedule.
