Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Nitin M. Gangane took on the role of Vice-Chancellor of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), a Deemed-to-be-University in Belagavi, on January 16, 2023. Prior to this, Dr. Gangane served as the Dean of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS) in Sevagram, Maharashtra.
Dr. Gangane completed his MBBS in 1983 and his MD in Pathology in 1987 at MGIMS, Sevagram under Nagpur University. He further earned a DNB in Pathology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital and Health Management. Additionally, he holds a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences with a focus on Epidemiology and Public Health from the University of UMEA, Sweden. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and the International Union Against Cancer (UICC).
Dr. Gangane began his distinguished career as a Research Officer and Lecturer in the Department of Pathology at MGIMS, Sevagram in November 1985. Over the past 37 years, he has held various significant positions, including Professor and Head of the Department, and Pro Vice-Chancellor at the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.
He has been honoured with the Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International Cancer Study Grant by UICC, allowing him to work at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO) in Lyon, France, and at NIDCR/NIH in Bethesda, USA. He has also received fellowships from the Association of Nordic Cancer Societies and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Dr. Gangane has more than 180 national and international publications to his name. He has served as the Principal Investigator on seven research projects and as Co-Investigator on twelve others, with funding from prestigious organizations such as IARC (WHO), UICC, NIH, the University of UMEA, ICMR, UGC, and DST.
His leadership roles extend to being a member of the Governing Body of ICMR and the Management and Academic Council of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. He has also served on the Senate of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. From 2006 to 2009, Dr. Gangane was the President of the Maharashtra Chapter of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists.
